DISCREPANCY NOTES (explain any mismatches):
Section 6: Merch Notes & Best Practices
Payment Methods to Accept at Shows
- Cash: Keep a float of small denomination notes (₹10, ₹20, ₹50, ₹100) for change.
- UPI: Display a QR code on the merch table (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm). Use a dedicated UPI ID for merch sales so revenue is easy to track.
- Card (optional): If you have a card reader (e.g., Pine Labs portable POS), use it. Many young concert attendees in India prefer UPI or card over cash.
Venue Commission
- Most venues in India charge 10–20% of gross merch sales as commission.
- Negotiate this upfront. Some venues will waive commission for well-known artists.
- Always confirm in writing whether commission applies before the show.
GST on Merch
- If you are GST-registered, merch sales are subject to GST. T-shirts and apparel: 12% GST. CDs/physical music media: 12% GST. Check the latest GST schedule at cbic.gov.in.
- If you are not GST-registered and annual turnover is below INR 20 lakh (or 10 lakh for special category states), GST registration is not mandatory.
