How much do Indian artists earn from Spotify?

The honest numbers on streaming income in India, and why the per-stream rate here is lower than the figures you read online.

Short answer

There is no fixed per-stream rate, but in India streaming typically pays roughly a few paise to around ten paise per stream, so about ₹10 to ₹30 for 1,000 streams, lower than the often-quoted international figures because Indian ad and subscription revenue per user is lower. International streams of your music pay far more. Estimate your own with our streaming royalty calculator.

Why India pays less per stream

Streaming royalties are not a fixed rate; they are a share of the platform's revenue in your listener's country. India has huge listenership but low average revenue per user, cheaper subscriptions and lower ad rates, so the per-stream payout for Indian streams is smaller than in the US or Europe. Ten thousand streams from Indian listeners and ten thousand from the US pay very differently.

A realistic range

Treat any single number with suspicion, but as a working range, Indian streams often land somewhere around ₹0.03 to ₹0.10 each depending on the platform and listener mix. Apple Music tends to pay more per stream than Spotify; YouTube's ad-supported plays pay the least. So 100,000 streams that are mostly Indian might return a few thousand rupees, not lakhs.

Run your own scenario in the royalty calculator, adjust the India-versus-international split and watch the number move. That split is the biggest lever on your income.

How to actually earn more

The bigger point

Streaming is a discovery and credibility layer, not a salary. The artists who earn treat streams as the top of a funnel that leads to gigs, sync and a real fanbase, not the destination. That is the whole approach behind our programme.
