How to submit music to Spotify playlists in India

There are two real doors to Spotify playlists, and one trap. Here is how to work all three.

By Siby John, thirteen years inside the platforms that decide which music gets seen: Marketing Manager at YouTube India from 2022 to 2025, working with 400+ artists and labels, now Senior Creator Manager at LinkedIn. Reviewed 31 August 2026.
Short answer

To get on Spotify playlists in India: first, pitch Spotify editorial through Spotify for Artists at least a week before release (this also helps Release Radar and Discover Weekly). Second, pitch independent and curator playlists directly, our reviewer and curator database lists real ones. Avoid anyone guaranteeing placements for a fee, bot playlists get your track flagged, not heard.

Door 1: Spotify editorial (free, the big one)

In Spotify for Artists, use the pitch tool on any unreleased track. You can pitch one song at a time, ideally seven or more days before release. Even if you do not land an editorial playlist, pitching signals the release to Spotify's algorithm and feeds Release Radar and Discover Weekly for your existing listeners.

Write the pitch like a human: genre, mood, instruments, the story, and any momentum you have. Specific beats generic.

Door 2: independent and curator playlists

Beyond Spotify's own editors, thousands of independent curators run playlists. Reaching the right ones is a numbers-and-fit game. Our database of 1,100+ reviewers, curators and playlists is filterable by genre, cost and whether they focus on South Asian music, so you pitch fit, not spray.

Personalise every pitch. Name the playlist, say why your song fits it, keep it short, and include the Spotify link and a one-line bio.

The trap: pay-for-play playlists

Anyone guaranteeing a fixed number of streams or a placement for cash is selling bot or fake-engagement playlists. Spotify detects artificial streams and can remove your track or withhold royalties. It never converts to real fans. Do not do it.

What actually makes playlists say yes

Editorial and curator support compounds with everything else you do. Pair it with the editorial playlist guide and a real release plan.
